Cut adrift, weightlessly wandering, I look back,
See a settlement of stars in the vast blackness
and wonder if, like my heart, those stars have since turned cold.
Burnt flame: ashes fall in flecks, singed fingertips now calloused
- lesson learned. We joked, said we’d reach for the moon but you clung onto stars instead.
I watched them burn bright, fading in the void
taking every bad and blessed memory of you with them.

"I really enjoyed getting to write a poem with Lauren as I've always been in awe of her poetry. I always find it can be daunting writing with friends due to different styles or ideas but the way that we seemed to follow a similar wavelength for this confessional-style poem was so rewarding and the process was so much fun!"
- Samuel Johnstone
"This poem was so much fun to write - not just because of the space theme, but I loved writing with one of my oldest and closest friends. It's always special when the opportunity comes round and it makes the process of writing even more enjoyable." - Lauren Middleton
Don't forget to check out the collaborative poems from earlier in the month, as well as Lauren's review of CODA and Sam's brilliant sequence of poems, all of which can be found here on the blog!
